When it comes to green homemade cleaners, you already know about baking soda, vinegar and lemon. But here is another super cheap gem: hydrogen peroxide! A 3% solution is the only germicidal agent composed only of water and oxygen. Hydrogen peroxide is considered the world's safest all natural sanitizer that kills microorganisms by oxidation.

When in contact with organic material, it breaks down into oxygen and water. You probably know its wound cleaning and healing properties but you may not know it helps heal infections even where gangrene is present! In addition to being a medicine cabinet staple, it deserves an honorary spot among the cleaning supplies . You can use it around the house to:

Disinfect your countertops

In your bathroom, kitchen, and anywhere else in your house, you can quickly and easy disinfect your counters using hydrogen peroxide. Mix it with water in equal parts in a spray bottle, and apply directly to the surfaces, and simply wipe them down.

Whiten your grout

Get rid of that dingy appearance from dust and dirt! First, make sure it is dry. Spray hydrogen peroxide directly onto it and let it work for couple of hours. Scrub it with abrush and soapy water and dry it off. It will return to its white and clean look.

Clean your mirrors

Hydrogen peroxide makes a great no-stick cleaning agent for mirrors. You can use 50/50 water solution or just spray it on and wipe it down using a paper towel. It will get rid of any bathroom germs on the shower glass door too!

Wash out your toilet bowl

To disinfect your toilet bowl, pour in half a cup of hydrogen peroxide. Let it stand for 20-30 minutes then scrub out the bowl with a toilet brush. When finished, douse your toilet brush in peroxide to keep it clean and sanitary.

Kill Mold

Anywhere you find mold in your house, you can apply hydrogen peroxide directly to the site, and then wipe it clean. It helps to kill mold on your bathroom tiles/grout, as well as removing stains and soap scum.

Add it to the dishwasher

To make your dishwasher do a better job, add a couple of ounces of hydrogen peroxide to your detergent. You can also add a little to your regular dish soap to give them a germ-killing boost.

Clean your refrigerator

Hydrogen peroxide will help with unpleasant odors and disinfect your fridge. Use it to wipe down shelves, remove food stains, and kill germs.

Replace the bleach in your laundry

Try using hydrogen peroxide as an alternative to commercial bleach. Soak fabrics for 30 minutes and you should be able to pull the yellow out for a fresh, clean look. To kill bacteria and sanitize, soak your white bathroom towels before running the washing machine.

Clean your fruits and vegetables

Pour a sink full of cold water, and then add a quarter of a cup of food grade peroxide. Soak your vegetables for around 20 minutes, rinse them and let them dry. This will get rid of chemicals which may have been used in the growing process, and also will preserve freshness. For fruits, spray on and let stand for a couple of minutes, rinse off and let them dry.
